What is healthcare video production?

Healthcare video production is video made for hospitals, clinics, care providers or medical companies, where the subjects are frequently patients, families or clinicians rather than actors, and where consent, privacy and clinical accuracy govern what can be filmed and shown. The practical differences from commercial work are that filming happens around care rather than around a schedule, every identifiable person needs documented consent, and claims about treatment or outcomes have to survive review before anything is published.

What this sector usually needs

Patient and family stories

The strongest healthcare films are the hardest to make well. Someone is describing the worst period of their life, and the crew has to be small enough that they forget it is there. We shoot these with a two or three person team, and we do not chase a shot at the expense of someone’s composure.

Staff training and clinical procedure

Training video has to be unambiguous. That means clear framing on hands and equipment, consistent terminology agreed with the clinical lead before the shoot, and a structure that lets someone rewatch one step without hunting for it.

Recruitment and culture

Healthcare hiring is competitive and clinicians can tell when a film is staged. Real shifts, real staff, and interviews that let people answer in their own words.

Regulated product and device

Device and pharmaceutical work carries claims review. We build in a review pass before the edit locks, so legal and regulatory comments arrive while changes are still cheap.

Working with Luma Creative

We are based in San Francisco and work across the Bay Area and the Central Coast. Crew, equipment and post-production are in-house, and we are used to working inside facilities where the production has to stay out of the way.

Frequently asked questions

Who signs off on a healthcare video before it goes out?

Usually more people than on a commercial project: the communications team, a clinician or medical reviewer, and often legal or compliance. We build that review into the schedule rather than treating it as a delay at the end, and we lock the script before the shoot so the review happens on words rather than on an edit that has already been coloured and mixed.

Can you film real patients and families?

Yes, and most of the strongest work on this page is exactly that. It needs consent handled properly and a crew that knows when to stop rolling. We pre-interview before the shoot day so the person on camera knows what they are agreeing to and is not meeting the story for the first time with a lens pointed at them.

Can you shoot inside a working clinical space?

Yes. It changes the crew size rather than the ambition: smaller footprint, faster setups, and a plan for the moments when the room has to go back to being a clinical space at no notice. Staff training and procedure work is filmed this way as standard.
