What makes a student recruitment video work?

A recruitment video works when a prospective student sees someone like themselves describing a decision they are currently facing. That means real students rather than actors, specific detail about cost, time and outcome rather than general enthusiasm, and enough of the campus or programme that the viewer can picture being there. The films that fail are the ones that describe the institution instead of the student.

What this sector usually needs

Student stories

One student, one decision, told in their own words. These are shot as long interviews and cut short, because the usable material is rarely where you expect it.

Recruitment and enrolment films

Built around the questions applicants actually ask: what it costs, how long it takes, what happens afterwards. Recruitment cycles are fixed, so these are scheduled backwards from the enrolment date.

Programme explainers

For non-traditional and workforce programmes where the model itself needs explaining before the benefit lands.

Campus events

Commencement, open days and conferences, covered with enough cameras that the moments are not missed.

Working with Luma Creative

We are based in San Francisco and film on campuses across the Bay Area, including work with first-generation and non-traditional student programmes where the storytelling has to be handled carefully.
