Storyboarding Services: San Francisco

Luma Creative provides professional storyboarding services to the San Francisco Bay area. Once the script has been locked, we then begin with storyboarding. Not every film necessarily needs a storyboard, but we feel that if the budget is there and the concept isn’t bare-bones, this really helps give the clients a full picture as to how all the shots will go together. This phase is where all our talk and text really comes to life. It’s where the rubber hits the road. Either it works or it doesn’t. And if it doesn’t, it’s much more cost-effective to go back to the ideation phase than to realize the concept doesn’t work weeks down the line after expensive production and post production. It’s at this stage where our director works with our storyboarding artist to go through the final script shot by shot to try and visually communicate their vision. Often times, we’ll also involve one of our unit production managers in order to keep ideas budget-conscious as well as make sure there’s enough time to make it happen. it’s where we iron out the subtle details of framing, location needs, as well as background talent, etc.

We’ve found that after the storyboard is created, everyone on both our team as well as the client-side, gets a new burst of energy, as it’s literally coming to life. It’s essentially a collaboration catalyst that puts the team on the same page and gets everyone’s creative wheels turning.

Now there isn’t necessarily a right or wrong way to the storyboard. Everyone’s artistry is a little different and essentially, we’ve figured out that the only wrong way to storyboard is to skip the step altogether.
